The style that has become known as period style refers to the invention of the new based on a person’s experience of the styles from the past. It’s an interpretation of past eras and the way in which things were done centuries or decades ago. Effectively it can be classed as an updated version of classic style, whether it be in architecture, clothing or furniture design.
This term is to distinguish the style from what might be classed as Modern style. For every generation the latest designs and fashions are classed as “modern” and those who have come up with the latest and greatest would class their creation as Modern. Hence, everything else that is not modern must be classed as Period Style.
